Being a "SneakerHEAD", is sometimes used when describing an individual that is into or sports a specific type or brand of sneaker. The term sometimes has a negative connotation but its roots are based not necessarily on the shoes but the admiration of the athletes who wore/wear these sneakers.

Footwear has always been a staple in ALL types of athletic events. From track

shoes to ballet shoes they are an intricate part of an athletes ensemble. Many that watch

from the sidelines do not have a keen understanding of the importance of specific design

aesthetics and simply don't care. Most admire the look and a possible piece of footwear that they can match with a shirt in their closet.

But when thinking about these products its not just the colors that are important but the design aesthetics that goes into the manufactured product. Today, marketing and promotion play an important roll in product sales but the longevity that Nike has created in the sport shoe industry

is based on their color, feel, design and public appeal ALL have to simlutaneaouly blend to make an impact.

Nike Running and basketball shoes more specifically as of LATE has made a big splash in the industry

making headway past our beloved Dunks and Retro runner.

Nike has always designed against the grain and has created sneakers that is not only aesthetically appealing but functionally ahead of its time.

The NIKE ROSHE has crossed the boundaries from all those interested in Nike Basketball, Nike Running, Nike SB and all of the ABOVE

THE NIKE ROSHE has changed the GAME in our opinion combing Comfort/Style/ingenuity adding a price point hard to resist. We see individuals that have never owned anything other than VANS wear a pair of these, and is coincidentally the only PAIR of shoes that EVERYONE at RIF OWNs.

IF you haven't tried on a PAIR beware, you may never want to wear anything else.

At times a pleasant face or good company can reduce the stress of daily routine and can turn an awkward day at work into laughs and smiles. Friends and Family is that secret potion of happiness and relief when your day has taken the wrong turn. A familiar face, brightens the mood and certain personalities though tiresome, can bring a smile your face.

The Gentry is one of those people. A southern raised gentleman with an accent thicker than "crocodile Dun Dee", brightens the room and brings a laugh out of the seriousness of the day. Born and raised with a strict Christian background in North Carolina he is not only courteous and gracious but knowledgeable in Jesus, The Bible and sneaker affairs.

Here he is sporting one of his latest pickup AJ 9 Carolina with a matching ensemble.

Most of the Time talking about over paid NBA players and Quality on the latest Nike Air Jordan, its Gentry's personal stories growing UP that make us Tentative as grade-schooler preparing for his first test.

He not only coaches Junior High schoolers in both Swimming and Basketball, prepping them to be the next big stars... but has an un-disclosed Night Job.

Non the less he came the shop to share with us his lastest PICKUP. After months of hard work he bought a NEW automobile cash. Hard work does pay off. Congratulations Gentry.

He calls his Car, "Toblerone" ALL Swiss, ALL Chocolate.

Making our way back to the shop another familiar face came to share his newest PICKUP (it was pickup day) . The Homie Jimmy picked up his new BIKE.

We're not motorcycle savvy here at RIF but in shoe terms, This would be as equivalent as a pair of Paris Dunk Sb's amoung all the other dunks.

Before Dropping Ed off at home, we decided to have a Good Ol Fashion RACE down the 1 way of 3rd Street in Little Tokyo (please don't try this at home)

As we close this strange face, we noticed it was no other than "teddy bear" Manny.

Most people find motivation and inspiration from Actors, Musicians, and overall those in the media spotlight. Its human nature to mimic behavior and attitudes seen on the big screen and our PC's at home.

Its in our nature to act like those who are affluent, strong willed, and overall "swaggy." Our perception on what is important or who is motivational is sometimes seen through lenses that we cannot relate to nor comprehend.

When we step outside our homes sometimes a different persona takes over and we perform like those in whom we admire. Some of us act arrogant like Kanye, "tough" like Tupac , and sometimes devonair like Clooney. How ever we behave in public its sad that sometimes its never like ourselves at home.

Our Admiration is praised towards individuals we don't know and most likely will never meet.

And its only when its TOO Late we realize that our greatest influences and motivations NEVER came from our favorite Ball Players, musicians or those we worship on the BIG Screen... but from those in our very own homes.

This week our GOOD Friend and employee of ours lost his Father.

His name is ROBERT Farris Jr. Father to our very own CARL Farris and to those who do not know him, he is the one always answering your phone calls, answering your emails, conversing with instore customers and overall making sure that YOUR experience here at RIF is never forgotten.

Robert Farris was born in a SMALL town in INDIANA and later proudly served his country for 3 years stationed in GERMANY as a paramedic.

After his short tenure in Europe he moved to Los Angeles and attended UCLA to complete his BS in Psychology.

Later married and proudly raised two children one of which is the ONE and ONLY Carl.

Mr. Farris an eclectic man collecting, watches, cars, and even comic books. The passion and love for his hobbies never over shadowed his responsibility as a Father and ALWAYS made sure there was a hot plate on the table for his family.

Though gone, Robert Farris will never be forgotten and his motivational attitude, influence and integrity lives on through CARL.

RIF prays for the Farris Family through this setback.

MR. Farris, save us a seat up there... I'm sure you'll be waiting ready to tell us what happens next to Peter Parker.

Its no secret that the RIF relies on ALL of you, the support of our loyal customers and friends. Through our daily work schedules all of you make our short time at the shop enjoyable and when disaster strikes its humbling to see all of you exceed our expectations of support and lend us a shoulder to lean on and someone to confine in. The irony is that we see most of you on a weekly basis more than our own families.

To tell you the truth our days depend not on the sales we make, but the relationship and bonds we create with all of you. And with that said,

This past week we here at RIF experienced a passing of someone in our circle of friends and with all the positive and blessed emails and gifts from ALL of you, it has made this tragedy easier for ALL of us, especially CARL.

We here at RIF have never closed on a SATURDAY in our 5 YEARS of BUSINESS... (7/28/12) being the first, Saturday being the most hectic and busy day out of the week its rare, but some events are more important than making a nickel.

Seems as if SOMEONE from above was watching over us because when we resumed our normal business day on SUNDAY the 29th, after the Robert Farris Jr. memorial

we were blessed with this ORDER...coincidence? we think not.

Entering in to the SECOND week of the olympics, USA basketball is headed into their most difficult week yet. Though projected to bring home the GOLD its still fun to watch these NBA ALL-Stars smash their way to GOLD podium.

Though the 92' DREAM Team in our opinion is the GREATEST OLYMPIC Basketball team to pursue the GOLD. This YEARS Olympic team CLOSLY rivals its fore-fathers.

NOT to mention the 92' DREAM team had the greatest PLAYER ever to play on the hardwood floor.

Sneakers are an exploration of different tastes. How we wear them, where we buy them and what type of sneakers we wear are all part of this culture and defines us individually. Different varieties of sneakers that we wear exhibit our individual personalities and interest.

Los Angeles is a prime example of different personalities and interests melting into one. Like RIF having a varieties of sneakers from Basketball, Running, Training, and Lifestyle.

The Los Angeles food scene is NO Different. The FOOD culture in LA is Diverse both in flavor/culture and price and LIKE RIF, Coming to Los Angeles you leave satisfied with whatever food adventure your decide to partake in.

Its No coincidence that RIF is located in Little Tokyo in LA (know your RIF history).

When we first opened our doors 5 YEARs ago, Little Tokyo was a FOODIE hot spot. Though there are plenty of places outside of LITTLE Tokyo to get your SUSHI fix, its the overall Japanese themed environment and different Japanese FOOD selections that make LIL Tokyo different from your local Sushi spot. Yakitori, Izakaya, Ramen you name it LITTLE Tokyo has it.

Things have changed around these parts and huge conglomerates (american apparel, starbucks, yogurt land) have become our neighbors, buts its the local restaurants and small shops that have been here for over 30 years that serve as the cornerstone for our home here in LITTLE Tokyo.

Like LA itself our STAFF here at RIF is diverse both culturally and in our interests outside of the shop.

Carl being Half Mexican half African American, Murad half Saudi half Filipino, Manny half mexican half bear. These three are thrilled Eating Japanese food.

Connor Being Half Japanese Half Irish dislikes Japanese food and prefers Mexican Food. Go Figure.

Senor FISH here in LITTLE Tokyo is a hidden GEM amoung Japanese restaurants but if you can find it give it a TRY you won't be dis-appointed.

Being at RIF its always impressive when we see athletes or wealthy buy TRUNK loads of sneakers but what truly impresses us the most is when young kids buy their own sneakers without help from MOM and DAD.

The Little homie Jacob Took the train all the way down from Pasadena (20 min away by car) then rode his bike to the shop today because he wanted to buy himself a new pair of sneakers for BACK TO SCHOOL.

Unlike the wealthy we encounter daily, Jacob took his time browsing the shelves and made careful calculations, keeping in mind he needs new pants/shirts as well as train fare back to PASADENA

Psychographics and demographics in our business is more important than the shoes themselves. The understanding of consumers behaviors, needs and wants is what guides us here at RIF to make the decisions we make. The simple idea of coming up with an idea from the "fire of the belly" is as obsolete as an old Italian grandma in the kitchen cooking her century proven recipe for a 5 star restaurant like Providence on the west side. (which is actually very delicious BTW) Our decisions are made as a reaction to ALL of your choices and decisions.

Along side having a keen understanding on the psychographics, understanding our demographics is just as important and the "yang" to understanding psychographics.

When first deciding to plant ourselves in Little Tokyo, there was absolutely no type of street/sneaker inspired store next by other than Blends which is miles aways.

We understood the location of RIF was a risk but whats business without a little.

AS time progressed we grew accustomed to local eats and more importantly the cultural differences Little Tokyo has to offer.

WE had to change our thought process in which we conducted business and more importantly

RESPECT the Locals.

If you don't know Little Tokyo is home to HUNDREDS of Japanese and Japanese American retirees.

We grew accustomed to random Japanese elderly walking into the shop filled with young adults while the NEWEST track from Rick Ross BUMPED obnoxiously through the shop.

It was part of our learning and growing process.

As the years progressed, we embraced the fact that we entered into one of ONLY 3 Japanese Towns in the United States and slowly partook in cultural events and changed our mindsets.

And today RIF stands proud of our neighborhood, and while still keeping TRUE to the RIF Mentality.

OUR Motto of: "GOOD People, Helping GOOD People", has spread past our regulars and all of you but to our neighbors and those that have been here Decades before US.

This weekend marks the 72nd Annual Nisei Week here in Little Tokyo.

This Week long festivals celebrates the First Generation Japanese American's here in the US of A.

Its an interesting festivity where anything Japanese goes. From Food faire, Japanese anime to Japanese import cars.

This week has it ALL.

Many would have guessed this was a CAMPOUT line for the GMP 6/7 pack but its parade goer's waiting for the parade to start.

This part of the Parade is actually the strangest. While a HUGE amount of Parade Goer's are family.

Ever year Japanese IMPORT cars cruise down the street honking horns and revving their ENGINES releasing a toxic amount of exhaust fumes into the CROWD of Children.

I never understood this, cool non the less.

It was business as usual in the shop, while traffic coming to RIF is near IMPOSSIBLE some still find their ways into the SHOP to buy those shoes they've always wanted. #SUPPORT

This SHOE was CARLS very FIRST Nike he BOUGHT with is own money.

After starving himself through a few weeks in high school. He was able to buy this pair at the LOCAL Journey's sneaker store.

This weekend we were fortunate enough to receive one for consignment. UNFORTUNATLY this wasn't Carl's size.

If anyone has a pair or ANY leads to the location of a brand new pair in a SIZE 10-10.5 you will be handsomely rewarded.

Though it was madness outside and no one in their right minds should have some to RIF this weekend.

The homie JED and his lady came by to drop off some of the MOST Delicious Cookies to EVER make it past RIF Doors.

Overall it was a FUN Filled Cultural Weekend, and though non of us here can truly relate to the Japanese festivities Its always nice to respect and experience what your neighborhood has to offer.

The wednesday hub is our favorite day working at RIF. It serves as a median for our weekly goals at the shop as it serves as a type of "half-time" for our week long goals. Adjustments are made and we enter into the threshold of busy/funfilled weekend.

The Summer Sun is slowly fading and peeking its head amoung the thunderous clouds of East (pasadena) and the West (Northhills). The un-bearable heat is turning into cool breeze, and the humid air transformed itself to a light and soft feel.

Here in Downtown LA, the cooling weather hasn't stopped those wearing high-tops and shorts and scantly clad women are still abundant.

Our Good Friend , "Gentle-man Gentry", came by today to drop off a few sneakers, making room for winter footwear.

Though LA weather rarely changes, low-tops and Flyknits must make room for High-tops and Darker shades of sneakers.

Gentleman Gentry with a shirt full of perspiration... from the looks of it... its gonna be a long summer.

Conner an avid B-Ball player has been cutting his hours short...making room for Varsity B-Ball practice.

Being impatient, here he is sporting a VINTAGE RIF Kobe shirt we designed for Lakers 09' winning season.

Monday is normally the day we situate ourselves from our busy weekend and prepare for the week ahead. Packages are picked up and delivered throughout doorsteps across the globe. Mondays are normally quite here at the shop but today was a little different.

Our good the Homie Jodie came through to drop off an autographed piece of PAC Man excellence. Though not sanctioned WBA gloves, being GOLD and Manny Pacquiao branded Boxing GLOVES. These are an awesome piece to add to our showcase.

The homie School Boy Q @qoovyq came through to pick up another pair of SHOES. Actually 2 pairs in the GMP pack. You know he skips those hectic campout and lines and comes straight to RIF to pick up his pair for RETAIL. Enjoy Q.

Another COMPTOWN Native dropped by before leaving back to training camp.

The homie Demar came through to pick up a few pairs of shoes. Keep an eye on him this season throwing caution in the AIR he will be wearing a few of these retros he purchased for RIF on the hardwood.

The holiday season is around the corner and the summer sun is transforming into early sunsets and cool breeze. Jordan brand is ready to bastardize retros for the holiday while we're making sure our bank accounts are set for this HOLIDAY's frivolous spending.

Though first comes halloween which is always an excuse to thirst out and act a FOOL, Thanksgiving and Christmas is not far away.

It has always been our mission here at RIF to help the local community and those who are in need. With our FIVE years of established business we have never planned this far ahead to help those in need for the upcoming holidays, this year we changed. With the blessing and support we have received this year from all of you, we have made it a priority this coming HOLIDAY season to HELP and LIVE by our motto...

RIF has taken pride in being part of a local LA movement called the #CHANGEUPLA.

In this PROJECT we will be donating shoes as well as PROCEEDS earned by the shop and collected from ALL of you.

The COLD weather has finally reached us here in Los Angeles, vans and converse are slowly making its way back into our closets making room for Hightops and other winter durable sneakers.

Though the winter weather here in LA doesn't dip below 45 degrees its always a nice change of pace to experience the winter weather and most importantly the Holiday Season.

Some take the Holiday Idea of "Giving" to heart and start giving to the less fortunate early.

our loyal customer @christerrydraws came by to donate 5 bags full of sneakers for the less fortunate of LA. Thank you and God Bless.

Directly from your closets into the HANDS of those of the SKID ROW needy.

Another generous supporter @nice_soles also came by and donated a set of NEAR Deadstock misc. shoes he HAD tucked away in his closet.

@nice_soles could have easily sold these shoes and made $500+ but opted to DONATE these to the less fortunate. Its situations like these that slightly off-set the fights, stabbing and murders or recent sneaker releases.

Not ALL sneaker collectors are hoarding, selfish, re-sellers. Some if not MOST are giving, generous and simply want nice sneakers. It the nature of the sneaker game that transforms us.

Counting the Blessings. Most of these shoes are slightly worn some even brand new.

We have been a staple in the sneaker community for almost 6 years. From our early inception from sending 1 package a day to what it is today, sending/selling hundreds of shoes a month.

It has been a roller coaster ride here at RIF and we thank the most invaluable piece of the puzzle, YOU, our supporters and anyone who has stepped through the RIF doors in the past 5 (almost 6 years).

We have tried to stay consistent with excellent customer service as well as provide you ALL with the most comprehensive and well sorted selection of sneakers at prices SECOND TO NON.

With the feedback we have received from emails, post cards, birthday cards and GIFTS from our supporters it seems we are meeting your expectations and we are BLESSED.

RIF has been growing at an exponential rate and we wanted to create something for those that do not necessary come to RIF on a weekly basis. Jeff and I wanted to spread the RIF idea to those that are not necessarily into footwear, or to those that have "grown" out of the scene.

So Jeff and I contemplated for YEARS on what we wanted to create. We wanted to expand RIF into something MORE than sneakers, creating something that we are not only interested in but something that was lacking locally and most important nationally.

What would you create?

After years of butting heads and ideas. What we came up with was simple. A Clothing Store.

Like RIF, what if we sorted out all the bull-shit and had a destination that had ONLY TOP TIER clothing brands and pieces. Brands that would not NORMALLY be distributed to other shops other than their own. Brands that are only available in 3 states. Brands where enthusiasts camp out for days for a T-Shirt. Now what IF we carried these TOP TIER Brands and consistently had new merchandise weekly. That is RIF Clothing.

Imagine RIF creating a clothing destination and a webshop that would distribute across the globe to those not fortunate enough to attain goods wanted.

THAT is what we are creating for you.

WE are close to our NEW Store Opening, and mind you...you will NOT be dis-appointed.
